Yemeni journalist Rasha Abdullah al-Harazi was killed in a car bomb attack

A car bomb killed journalist Rasha Abdullah al-Harazi while she was driving through the Khor Makser neighborhood of the southern port city of Aden yesterday, according to Reuters, The Associated Press, and independent Yemeni newspaper Al-Masdar.

According to those reports, Al-Harazi was pregnant at the time. Mahmoud al-Atmi, her husband, a journalist as well, was seriously injured in the blast, according to reports.

The Associated Press reports no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to the AP and a report by Saudi satellite news channel Al Arabiya, al-Harazi worked for Emirati television channels Al-Ain and Al-Sharq. As reported by Al-Arabiya, her husband contributes to Al-Arabiya and the Saudi news channel Al-Hadath.

According to Al Masdar, Al-Atmi received threats from the Ansar Allah group, also known as the Houthis. After the attack, Yemeni journalist Bassem al-Janani posted screenshots to Twitter claiming that al-Atmi was speaking about how Houthi members had asked for information about his address in Aden and a description of his car

According to CPJ, there have been at least 19 journalists killed in Yemen since the conflict began in 2014, and at least two more were killed last year in Aden.

U.N. Human Rights Council voted last month to terminate the mandate of the Group of Eminent Experts on Yemen, removing the only independent international accountability mechanism for human rights abuses committed by both sides during the conflict.
