AFPC-USA Speaks with Journalist Salem Solomon from Eritrea

Salem Solomon is an Eritrean American journalist working in the U.S. and currently serve as a senior editor in VOA’s Africa Division. In her role, she collaborates with stringers and reporters across Africa to bring a wide range of stories from the continent to our international audience. She also works with over 200 colleagues, some based in Washington D.C., and some in regions VOA covers.

However, earlier in her career before coming to the U.S., she worked in Eritrea as a nightly news anchor, where she experienced firsthand the challenges of working under strict censorship. Eritrea remains one of the most restricted countries for media. These experiences have shaped her work and perspective on press freedom and media practices.

This interview was conducted by Alan Herrera, who oversees AFPC-USA's editorial operations.
