The Role of Creativity in Human-Centered Journalism and Reporting
Donato Kiniger Passigli serves as Vice President of the World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS) and previously held a senior position at the United Nations. He co-chairs the ongoing UN-WAAS Human Security Campaign for All (HS4A). Donato is also a professor of practice in crisis management, working with the Open University of Catalunya (UOC) in Barcelona and the School of Advanced and International Political Studies (HEIP) in Paris. He has collaborated with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) as a senior adviser on peace and security.
Until 2019, Donato led the Fragile States and Disaster Response department at the International Labour Organization (ILO), managing crisis response programs following major humanitarian emergencies and addressing issues related to governance and employment. His extensive career at the UN included roles as spokesperson for the UN Humanitarian Affairs Office (OCHA) and head of media and public affairs at the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague. He also served as a political affairs officer and chief of staff for the UN mission in Western Sahara, and led external relations at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and Rwanda (ICTR).
Donato’s previous roles involved significant peacekeeping missions, including participation in the Perez de Cuellar transition team and the organization of high-profile international visits and media campaigns. He played a crucial role in shaping various UN advocacy strategies and managing global appeals. He is known for his work on employment for peace and resilience and has made notable contributions to both international and humanitarian efforts.
