Thanos Dimadis

Thanos Dimadis is the Executive Director of the Association of Foreign Press Correspondents in the USA. He was born in Veroia, Greece, grew up in Brussels, Belgium, and lives permanently in New York.

From 2001 to 2009, he worked as a journalist for several media outlets in Athens, Greece (MEGA TV, BHMAgazino, CityPress/FreeSunday, City of Athens Municipal Radio). From 2010 to 2017, he worked as a foreign correspondent from Washington, D.C., New York, and Brussels for the two most popular broadcast TV channels in Greece (SKAI TV and ALPHA TV). In Athens, he was the youngest ever journalist in charge of the political news coverage team for the most prominent TV channel (ALPHA TV).

As a foreign correspondent at the International Monetary Fund and the European Union's institutions, he created the TV documentary entitled "Three years-three memoranda" ("3 Χρόνια-3 Μνημόνια"). He wrote a book called "In the Daedalus of the Eurozone Crisis" ("Στον Δαίδαλο των Μνημονίων"), published in Greece in 2014. His work as a foreign correspondent was distinguished by a series of exclusive interviews with international governmental and economic institutions' international personalities and executives. He has published numerous articles and analyses on European and Greek politics and press freedom issues in international and Greek media (Fair Observer, IJNet, Nasdaq, CGNT America, Global Connections TV, The Independent, Business Insider, New York Times, Guardian, Huffington Post, Athens Voice, Kathimerini, LIFO, Protagon). In his second book, "A Reporting About Media and Power" ('Ένα Ρεπορτάζ για την Τηλεόραση και την Εξουσία"), published in Greece in 2020, he narrates how misinformation and fake news were used by the leftist SYRIZA government and the state-owned media to crackdown on freedom of speech and intimidate journalists in the country.

Since 2017, when he finished his career as an active foreign correspondent, he worked as a manager on business strategy and communications for clients, agencies, and organizations. As the President/Director of the Association of Foreign Press Correspondents USA, he works with the private sector to provide educational resources to foreign correspondents through scholarships and programs. He is a lecturer for the University of Florida, School of Telecommunications, and a visiting lecturer at the George Washington University, Political Management School. He was an advisor to Greek MPs and MEPs in Athens and Brussels. During his undergraduate studies, he worked for the press office of the Olympic Games in Athens and for the General Secretariat of Youth in Athens.

He graduated from George Washington University Political Management School with a Master's degree in communications and political management. He graduated from the Knight-Bagehot Fellowship Program at Columbia University as one of ten journalists selected out of hundreds of applicants to be fully-funded scholars in 2018. He also holds a Master's degree in Media (City University of London), Political Science (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.), and European Law and Policy (Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences of Athens). Additionally, he completed the Executive Education program "Leadership in the 21st Century" at Harvard Kennedy School. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences of Athens at the Department of Journalism and Mass Media. He was honored with a scholarship from the Alexander S. Onassis Foundation.

He currently serves on the Harvard Kennedy School Alumni Association of New York and on the U.S. Alumni Board of the Business School of the City University of London.
