Police attack journalists covering demonstrations in Albania
At least nine journalists were seriously injured by tear gas and water cannons fired by riot police on January 8 in Tirana, Albania's capital, after hundreds of protesters smashed into the headquarters of Albania's main opposition party amid a leadership dispute.
According to Ora News and news reports, seven employees of the privately-owned broadcaster Ora News were injured after police fired a "disproportionate amount" of tear gas at them, including camera operators Ermal Noka, Esmerald Jahelezi, and Alban Xhokaxhi, and reporters Everest Dedaj, Fjorela Beleshi, Sonila Musaj, and Edison Vatnika.
Felix Bilani, a freelance photographer, told NOA television that he received medical treatment after police fired tear gas at him during a protest.
