Journalists killed in massacre, artillery attack in Myanmar

According to multiple news sources and a UNESCO statement decrying the killing, journalist Sai Win Aung, also known as A Sai K, was killed in an artillery attack by Myanmar forces in the Myawaddy township located in Kayin state's southeastern Kayin state, near the Thai border, on December 25, 2021.

According to news reports, soldiers of the 140 Infantry Battalion abducted at least ten people, including journalist Pu Tuidim, in Matupi Township in Chin State on January 6 or 7, and then executed them, as well.

The bodies of Pu Tuidim and the other abductees were found in that township's Kilong village on January 9, the reports say. The report stated without elaborating that Pu Tuidim was executed on January 8.

The news articles covering his death note that Sai Win Aung edited the local Federal News Journal. In addition to founding the Khonumthung Media Group and editing it, Pu Tuidim was a founder of BNI Multimedia Group, as reported by those outlets, which also said that he reported for the Chin News Agency and Kaladan News Agency.

After the country's 2021 coup, the first journalist to die was photojournalist Soe Naing, who was arrested by military officials while covering an anti-junta protest in Yangon on December 10 and later revealed to have died while in custody.
