A TV anchor was beaten by unknown assailants in Kabul
Ahmad Baseer Ahmadi, an employee of the media in Kabul, claims he was attacked by armed men in PD 9. Ahmadi is an anchor for the Ayna TV channel.
When Ahmadi was attacked by armed individuals on his way home, he was on his way home. His head was hit with a pistol.
The safety of journalists and media employees is in jeopardy, Ahmad added. The Islamic Emirate has been urged to conduct a serious investigation into violent attacks against journalists.
Farkhunda Mihbi, a journalist, said, "The journalists have been persecuted recently. We hope media watchdogs and Islamic Emirate will investigate the cases."
NAI - a group advocating for open media in Afghanistan - said that violence against journalists has surged in recent months, but perpetrators have not been held responsible.
The Islamic Emirate should investigate the cases so the public will know if it was committed by the people acting under the authority of Islamic Emirate officials or by individuals abusing the title of Islamic Emirate, said Naseer Ahmad Noori, an official at NAI.
In the past three months, there have been more than 30 cases of violence.
According to a survey conducted by the Afghanistan National Journalists' Union after the fall of the former government, nearly 70 percent of media workers have lost their jobs. Over 80 percent of media organizations have ceased operations.
