A gang attacks Argentinian newspaper with molotov cocktails
In Barracas, Argentina a hooded gang attacked the offices of the Clarín newspaper. Leaders from across the political spectrum condemned the attack. The anti-government newspaper's offices were targeted with molotov cocktails around 11.05pm on Monday night, the company's bosses said. No injuries were reported in the incident, which they described as "worrying" but "minor." Neither material damage nor victims were reported in the incident. A nearby security camera recorded the attack.
Nine people, all hooded to conceal their identities, then throw crude incendiary devices, commonly known as molotov cocktails, at the newspaper's offices before running away down Ituzaingó Street. Security staff immediately alerted the emergency services, who rushed to the scene and sealed off the perimeter.
All political parties condemned the attack. A number of press organisations, including Asociación de Entidades Periodísticas Argentinas (ADEPA), Foro de Periodismo Argentino (FOPEA), Federación Internacional de Periodistas (FIP) and Sindicato de Prensa de Buenos Aires (SiPreBA) condemned the attack and called on authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice. Grupo Clarín, the newspaper's parent company, condemned the "violent expression of intolerance" against a media outlet and said it was awaiting "urgent clarification and sanction."
