Mexican Journalist Mariana Navarrete is a Big Believer in Community-Driven Journalism

Mariana Navarrete is a bilingual multimedia journalist from Mexico with a background in print, social video storytelling, and community engagement. Her work spans local, national, and international outlets. As a freelance journalist for El Tecolote in San Francisco, she has pitched and written news and feature stories on topics ranging from the eight-year quest for justice for 43 disappeared Mexican students, to a BIPOC-led land restoration project, to a commentary on 212 years of Mexican Independence.
Mariana has also served as a radio host for Los Herederos Radio and currently works with Epicenter NYC, where she edits weekly “news you can use” social videos on topics such as reproductive health care, housing rights, voting resources, and youth activism across platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. Her work offers a unique perspective on American life and policy as a foreign correspondent deeply rooted in community-driven journalism.
