Alyce Nelson: The Importance of Investing in Women Leaders

Alyse Nelson is president and CEO of Vital Voices Global Partnership. Previously, Alyse served as deputy director of the State Department’s Vital Voices Global Democracy Initiative and worked with the President’s Interagency Council on Women at the White House.

 
 

She has conducted leadership training with women at the Central Intelligence Agency, DFID, the UK Development Agency, Fortune 1000 companies and at numerous conferences. Fortune Magazine named Alyse one of the 55 Most Influential Women on Twitter and she was featured as one of Newsweek’s 150 Women Shaking the World. Alyse is the author of the best-selling book “Vital Voices: the Power of Women Leading Change Around the World” and editor of “Vital Voices: 100 Women Using Their Power to Empower.”

In an interview with Susan Tehrani, Vice President of the Association of Foreign Press Correspondents in the United States, Ms. Nelson talks in depth about the importance of investing in women leaders and how Vital Voices Global Partnership has paved the way for “ more than 20,000 change-makers across 184 countries and territories, who in turn have improved the lives of millions of people in their communities and countries.” She also shares her perspective on why the road in the fight for women’s leadership roles and equality has often been challenging.
